Story Nine - case studies in Ethiopia in 2008

  1. A Village Birth Attendant (VBA) reported that when she ran out of kits, she purchased gloves and plastic from the market so she could carry on assisting with deliveries in her community. The VBA's husband was worried that his wife could contract HIV through contact with infected blood during a delivery. Now he feels they are on the right track because gloves are used in each delivery.
  2. It was reported by the Health Nurse, that the training helped the VBAs identify harmful practices and some have stopped Female Genital Mutilation practices. There were 26 VBAs trained in that facility.
