Uganda
Project Overview
Our programme in Uganda has the potential to grow with a great need for our kits with a maternal mortality rate of 880:100,000 live births.
The BKFA has worked with 4 organisations in Uganda:
1. Uganda Australia Christian Outreach
2. OneMana
3. Think Humanity
4. Kigezi African Partnership
Participating Organisations
Dr Ssembatya supervises this project for the BKFA. He has reported that “most babies in rural areas were dieing (sic) many due to tetanus and other infectious diseases”. The kits are distributed through Women’s Groups and Associations under UACO Health Education guidelines and Traditional Midwife training programmes. Since 2005 we have supplied UACO with over 17,700 kits.
OneMama have been partners with BKFA since 2009. In this time 4,600 kits have been delivered.
Think Humanity is a recent partner and has receive 1,400 kits to date. They have requested a further 400 kits for distribution in 2012.
Kigezi African Partnership
They are a new organisation to our project and we hope our relationship will develop. They are awaiting their pilot program of 200 kits.
