Sudan

Project Overview

This is a country where the political instability makes it unsafe for volunteers and NGOs. At times all transport into the country stops and kits cannot be sent. The kits often accompany the volunteer.

With a maternal mortality rate of 590:100,000 live births, there is a great need for a clean birth.

BKFA works with these organisations in Sudan;

1. Padang Lutheran Christian Relief

2. Churches of Christ Overseas Aid

3. Health for Mothers Sudan (formally Birralee Maternity)

Participating Organisations

Padang Lutheran Christian Relief (www.plcr.org)

PLCR's mission is to respond to the needs of the most impoverished through relief and development projects that serve those in need, regardless of race, colour, gender or religious beliefs. PLCR is a Canadian registered charity. Kits are distributed to Traditional Birth Attendants in the Malakal region and the infrastructure exists within the organisation to distribute 200,000 kits if we supplied them. They would like distribution to be extended to Upper Nile and Warrap States in Southern Sudan. www.plcr.org

BKFA has supplied 19,400 kits to date. They request 20,000 kits annually.

Churches of Christ Overseas Aid (http://www.inpartnership.org.au/cocoa)

This organisation is new and has only received 600 kits to date. Churches of Christ Overseas Aid has requested a further 1,000 kits in 2012.

Health for Mothers Sudan (formally Birralee Maternity) (http://healthformotherssudan.com/)

This organisation is relatively new and has received 1,600 kits to date. They are hoping to distribute another 1,200 in 2012.
